Alchemie Technology Announces ‘Project Wave’: A €15 Million Digital Textile Transformation in Portugal

Alchemie Technology, the leader of jet precision dyeing solutions, is excited to announce the commencement of Project Wave - A €15 Million Digital Textile Transformation in Portugal.

Alchemie Technology, the leader of jet precision dyeing solutions, is excited to announce the commencement of Project Wave, a landmark initiative designed to revolutionise textile dyeing and finishing in Europe. The project centres on the deployment of Alchemie’s disruptive disruptive digital dyeing and finishing systems, Endeavour and Novara systems. These systems, underpinned by Alchemie’s unique and proprietary digital liquid application technology that delivers nanodroplets of dye and finishing chemistry to the textile with exceptional precision and accuracy such that the chemistry is never applied in excess, deliver a step-change in sustainability.

Project Wave includes the installation of three Endeavour systems plus one Novara system into an existing dyehouse in the heart of the northern Portugal textile cluster in Gilmonde, Portugal. With anticipated CAPEX of approximately 15 million EUR and entry into operation expected in January 2029, the facility will provide sustainable colouration and finishing for polyester and cotton wovens and knits. Operating under dye-to-service model, the site is expected to deliver up to 54 million meters of dyed wovens and knits per year and 18 million meters of finished wovens and knits.

The environmental impact of these systems is substantial. The Endeavour, Alchemie’s low-carbon digital dyeing solution, delivers reductions in energy usage of up to 85%, water usage of up to 95%, and dye usage of up to 30%. Similarly, the Novara system’s single-sided application of concentrated finishing chemistry delivers reductions energy usage of up to 84%, water usage of up to 92%, and chemistry usage of up to 30%. Both systems significantly lower associated GHG emissions and aim to further improve these benefits by accelerating the transition towards low impact fibres and bio-based, natural colourants and finishes.

“Project Wave represents a critical milestone for Alchemie. Following our successful operations in Taiwan, bringing this technology to the heart of Europe’s textile industry allows us to establish a premier Portuguese engineering and knowledge hub”
Dr Alan Hudd, CEO and Founder of Alchemie Technology

“Our directors and shareholders have fully pledged their support to ensure this project reaches financial close and operational success. This initiative will accelerate the transition to sustainable dyeing and finishing within Europe by reducing our reliance on imports. Furthermore, it provides a scalable blueprint that we intend to roll out across other regions in Portugal and throughout the EU.”

Alchemie has already secured letters of intent totalling 70% of Project Wave output. Industry partners interested in learning how Project Wave can support your manufacturing goals, are encouraged to contact Alchemie Technology for more information.
