We were delighted to participate in the recent Innovate UK Business Connect webinar, where Alchemie Technology's Chief of Staff Penny, and Senior Chemist, Dr Reza shared insights into how Alchemie’s pioneering digital textile dyeing solutions reduce water consumption for sustainable textile production. The webinar marked the first in a three-part series, led by the Innovate UK Global Alliance Africa project, and the Innovate UK Business Connect Materials & Manufacturing team.
Building Communities of Innovation
The webinar brought together attendees and speakers from Africa, Asia, and the UK, exploring water consumption across the textile supply chain from fibre farming to fabric processing. Ensuring collaboration and knowledge-sharing to build communities of innovation with industry leaders, academics, innovators, manufacturers, investors, Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs), policymakers, and regulatory experts. Where Penny and Dr Reza showcased how advanced digital dyeing technologies, like Endeavour™, can address some of the world’s most pressing environmental challenges, particularly reducing water use in textiles.
The Need to Reduce Water Consumption through Innovation
Every year, the textiles and apparel sector uses approximately 93 billion cubic metres of water (UNCTAD, 2019). This is equivalent to meeting the drinking water needs of 5 million people. Highlighting the urgent need to reduce water consumption through innovation. While also encouraging the textile industry to shift toward water-efficient and sustainable production models.
How Innovation Can Deliver Sustainable Production
Discussions throughout the webinar reinforced how collaboration and technology can drive innovation to deliver sustainable production.
Speakers highlighted the urgency of addressing overexploited water resources and the importance of building resilient, transparent supply chains. They showcased how regenerative farming techniques, vertical agriculture, and connected innovation can help reduce water usage, improve soil health, and create more sustainable fibre production systems.
Achieving Sustainable Textiles through Alchemie’s Innovations
Reducing water consumption and the environmental impacts from traditional textile dyeing are fundamental to the alternative dyeing methods we offer at Alchemie Technology.
Our Chief of Staff Penny Martin and Senior Chemist Dr Naser Reza presented The Hidden Costs of Colour; how traditional textile dyeing contributes significantly to water pollution, showcasing how brands and textile manufacturers can achieve sustainable textiles through Alchemie’s innovations. Penny and Naser detailed how our Endeavour™ is a production-scale system, which uses our patented nozzle technology to deliver 1.2 billion droplets of dye per linear metre of fabric. Capable of dyeing both natural or synthetic fibres such as cotton and polyester, either woven or knitted. All while using significantly less water, energy, and chemistry to achieve consistent, high-quality dyed fabrics at scale.
Transforming Textiles through Innovation
Throughout Innovate UK’s “Transforming Textiles” webinar, one theme remained clear. Innovation takes many forms and is being used across the textile supply chain to reduce water consumption for textile production. Offering a compelling platform for collaboration and knowledge-sharing as we as an industry continue to address the urgent environmental challenges we face.
We at Alchemie Technology were delighted to be part of the conversation around transforming textiles through innovation, while presenting how we are reducing water consumption through our digital textile dyeing solution Endeavour™. We remain committed to transforming textiles and ensuring more sustainable textile production now and for the future. We look forward to continuing the conversation and accelerating sustainable textiles at upcoming Innovate UK webinars in December 2025 and February 2026.
